Botox/Dysport Injections

We use Botox/Dysport injections to decrease moderate to severe forehead lines, crow’s feet lines, frown lines between the eyebrows and other areas to reclaim your youthfulness. The use of Botox treatments offer cosmetic solutions with minimal discomfort and down time.

What are Botox and Dysport Treatments?

Botox® and Dysport® Cosmetic is a purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. It is a non-surgical treatment that can temporarily reduce moderate to severe lines and creases forming consistently in areas where there is expression and movement such as between the eyebrows (glabella), forehead, around the eyes, and even in lower face areas such as the chin and neck. Botox and Dysport are one of the most popular antiaging treatments available today.

During treatment, very low doses of Botox and Dysport are administered via a few tiny injections directly into the muscles that cause those stubborn lines. The treatment is usually done in about 10 minutes, and no recovery time is needed. Within days, you may see an improvement that can last from 3-6 months. Results may vary.

How does Botox and Dysport work?

Botox and Dysport are highly purified neurotoxin injected into the muscle to temporarily relax and limit the muscle strength, preventing it from contracting. When in effect, the muscles movement is limited and is temporarily incapable of causing lines and creases on the surface when making facial expressions.

When will I see results from a Botox or Dysport treatment?

Within days, you may see a marked improvement and full effect can take up to 2 weeks after Botox injections. Results can last for 3-6 months. If you discontinue treatment the lines in the area will gradually look like they did before treatment.

Is a treatment with either Botox or Dysport painful?

Discomfort is usually minimal and brief. The entire procedure takes approximately 10 minutes. Many people return directly to work or normal activity following a treatment with either Botox or Dysport.

Who should not use Botox or Dysport?

Botox or Dysport should not be used in the presence of infection at the proposed injection site(s) and in individuals with known hypersensitivity to any ingredient in the formulation. Patients with neurological disorders such as ALS, Myasthenia Gravis or Lambert-Eaton syndrome may be at increased risk of serious side effects.

Will I experience any side effects?

The most common side effects include redness and swelling at the site of injections for a few minutes after treatment and possibility of a bruise. Less common side effects are headache, pain in the face, respiratory infection, flu syndrome, temporary eyelid droop, and nausea.

Will my facial expressions continue to look natural?

Although the results are visible, a treatment with Botox or Dysport will not radically change your facial appearance or make you look as if you “had work done.” The muscle activity that causes lines in certain areas is simply reduced, so you can still frown or look surprised without the wrinkles and creases between your brows.

What will happen to lines or wrinkles if I choose not to continue Botox treatments?

If you do not continue treatments, the lines and wrinkles that were once treated with Botox or Dysport will come back as they were before the injections.

How much does Botox or Dysport cost?

Botox and Dysport are measured in units, with each treatment customized to the individual. The dosage (in units) varies depending upon the area to be treated and the muscle strength within that area.  At the time of your appointment, Katie will discuss the areas of concern and evaluate the muscle movement to provide a dosage and cost for your treatment.

Below is a Botox injection dosage guide for reference:
Glabella (between the brows): 10-30 units
Forehead: 6-20 units
Crow’s Feet (around eyes: 10-30 units per eye)

Are there any restrictions following Botox treatment?

Patients should refrain from laying down, exercising, or other rigorous physical activity for 4  hours after injections to avoid migration t of the product. Patients should also avoid rubbing or massaging treated areas during the first 24 hours. Failure to comply could result in issues such as eyebrow drooping and eye spasms, among other risks.
