MOXI Laser
The MOXI laser by Sciton is a fractionated non-ablative laser that provides a more gentle approach to laser skin resurfacing. This procedure is designed for all skin types, ages, at any time of year! MOXI helps patients achieve a visibly clearer, smoother, and brighter complexion with little downtime.
What are the benefits of Moxi?
How does Moxi work?
MOXI uses non-ablative fractionated laser energy to create tiny, controlled, and thermal injuries. The 1927 nm wavelength creates controlled zones of coagulation to chosen depths in the skin to stimulate collagen production and reduction in pigment. This helps correct the initial signs of sun damage and aging for a glowing complexion.
What are the pre-procedure instructions?
- Please try to arrive with a clean face. No makeup, lotions, sunscreens, etc. if possible.
- Avoid sun exposure/burns 4 weeks prior to procedure.
- Discontinue use of retinoids 3 days prior to procedure.
- Be aware that Moxi laser will take off spray tan or self-tanning lotions. It is best to not put those on 48 hours in advance.
What can I expect during a Moxi treatment?
We use a numbing agent beforehand so treatment is quite comfortable. People report feeling a hot sensation during the procedure and a sunburn feeling right after.
What can I expect the following days after my Moxi treatment?
Day 1: Swelling common, burning sensation lasting up to 45 minutes, then pink/flushed skin for 4-24 hours depending on treatment intensity.
Day 2: Swelling will be most noticeable after the first night, especially under the eyes. Skin will appear dry. Keep your skin well moisturized.
Day 3-5: The skin can feel very dry and “sandpapery”. The skin will form tiny dark pinpoint/bronzed texture and begin to flake and peel. Slight outbreak of acne is possible.
Day 5-7: If most of the pinpoint texture has worn off and skin is not too dry, you can sparingly use a toner with AHA/BHAs (glycolic, lactic or salicylic acids) to minimize chance of breakouts.
Day 7-10: All peeling should be complete and skin starts to feel smooth and brighten.
How do I care for my skin after a Moxi treatiment?
- Cleanse the skin two times a day with lukewarm water and a gentle cleanser. Use your hands with gentle patting motions. Do not rub, scrub, use an exfoliant or skin care brush such as a Clarisonic on the treated area.
- Moisturizer should be applied generously with clean hands over the treated area and reapplied whenever your skin feels dry. Do not apply any other products to treated areas that were not instructed by our clinic such as essential oils, coconut oil, etc.
- Sunscreen is a must and should be used daily beginning the day after treatment and used consistently for up to threemonths post procedure. Use a physical sunscreen with broadband UVA and UVB protection and a SPF of 30 or more. Ensure to reapply during sun exposure. We also recommend wearing hats and protective clothing for a month after the procedure to avoid sun exposure.
- Makeup can be worn 24 hours after your treatment
- Avoid strenuous exercise and sweating for at least 24 hours post-treatment.
- For general post-treatment discomfort, an over-the-counter oral pain reliever may be used. (Example: Tylenol)
- If an antiviral or steroid was prescribed; please take as directed and call our office with questions.
- Avoid scratching, picking, and itching as much as you can; scarring and pigmentation complications can occur.
- You will also see black speckles/dots on your skin after treatment. This is called “MENDS” and completely normal after a Moxi Laser procedure and part of the healing process to rejuvenate your skin.
What is the downtime after a Moxi treatment?
- Healing will generally take 5-7 days for most patients depending on skin type and desired results.
- You may feel dry or a grid-like pattern on your skin for a few weeks after treatment; this is normal.
What is the recommendation for maintenance and to keep results lasting longer?
We recommend a series of about three treatments depending on skin needs for maximum results. Annual treatments may be suggested to maintain and further protect against damage and to build collagen.
MOXI can be combined with BBL Hero for a minimal downtime procedure with transformative results! BBL Hero works to target pigment and reduce red undertones, including capillaries, and brown pigments from age and sun; while The MOXI gently improves skin texture and overall smoothness and glow.
Also, using proper medical grade skincare on a daily basis will help keep your skin in good health and is a great investment between laser sessions.
